Part of my intention for the New Year of 2016 was to do a cleanse. Every so often (at least twice a year), I’ll do a restrictive diet that includes dropping all alcohol, caffeine, meat, and severely reducing sugar and salt intake. I already eat pretty healthily in terms of whole foods, so eliminating processed foods isn’t much of the focus.
However, at the end of 2015 I was really feeling the call to cleanse again. In addition to the fact that it had been several months since my last “pause”, I had been having some strange breakouts that indicated to me I’d been a little out of whack with my diet over the holidays. Between Thanksgiving, my wedding reception, and Christmas, I had been doing a LOT of revelry–which was totally fun, and probably overall OVERBOARD.
That said, I started juicing the first week of 2016. While I tend to make juices in my house at least a couple times a week, I’ve never done a multi-day juice cleanse where I only imbibe JUICE. It has been interesting, to say the least (but more on that another time!).
I want to share two of my favorites juices from this cleanse, both of which come from Reboot With Joe. (His three-day juice plan is what I followed, and is one of the free resources on the site!)
SPORTY SPICE
2 servings
4 beets (beetroot)
2 carrots
6 celery sticks
2 oranges
2 lemons
2 handfuls basil
Nutritional Facts: 146 calories, 5g protein, 5g fiber, 20g sugar
CARROT-APPLE-GINGER
2 servings
4 apples
6 carrots
2-inch piece of fresh ginger root
Nutritional Facts: 196 calories, 2g protein, 3g fiber, 31g sugar
They’re two of my favorites from this 3-day reboot, and if you’ve got a juicer, make these juices! They make a great addition to your regular diet, especially if making the leap into a multi-day juice cleanse sounds scary or not right for you.
Happy Juicing! Let me know below if you have any juice recipes that are your absolute faves!
